Updated Health Assessment Process

In September, the BC Centre for Disease Control amended its process for health assessments for K-12 School Settings. For the past five weeks, our school district has been requesting parents/guardians and staff to sign a daily health assessment before entering a district-site. While every staff member will be required to continue to complete a daily health assessment for their site, starting on October 19th, our health assessment process will be changing for students.

Parents/guardians will be required to self-assess their child for key symptoms of illness daily BEFORE sending them to school. These symptoms include fever (Body temperature > 37.5°C), chills, cough or worsening of chronic cough, shortness of breath, loss of smell or taste, diarrhea, and nausea/vomiting.

If your child is experiencing any of the above symptoms, they should stay home for 24 hours from when the symptoms started. If the symptom(s) improves, they may return to school when they feel well enough. If the symptom(s) persists or worsens, seek a health assessment by calling 8-1-1.

To confirm that parents/guardians will be conducting daily self-assessments at home, we ask all families to complete our Health Assessment Waiver by October 16th, 2020. A health assessment checklist can be accessed online and printed to support families with this new process.
