2 students holding their light-bright project Students Working Together

Human and Social Development

Our students will study personal and human social skills and as they relate to students' identity in the world - both as individuals and as members of their community. We are learning that personal and human social skills encompass the abilities students need to thrive as individuals, to understand and care about themselves and others, and to find and achieve their purposes in the world.

Goals

  • Improve student sense of well-being.

We have a safe welcoming environment at Kandal as seen by the number parent volunteers at Diwali.  As well, we have parents invited into the classroom every Tuesday to share the learning experience with their children and learn the different ways they can support their children at home.

At Kandal, we are on the journey of teaching our students about the Zones of Regulation.  This is part of our Social Emotional Learning goal where we are teaching students the different zones there body & mind is currently in.  Once students can label or recognize what zone they are in only then can they apply the strategies to self regulate themselves.  We refer to the Zones of Regulation every day on the morning announcements and introduce students to new strategies.
